PEP loans: Capfin at PEP and Ackermans
A “PEP loan” is a Capfin personal loan. Capfin trades as “a division of Pepkor Trading (Pty) Ltd”, and PEP and Ackermans are Pepkor stores. You can apply online, by SMS or in any PEP or Ackermans store. The store takes your documents and payments; Capfin decides the loan.
What the stores do, per Capfin’s FAQ (read 28 Oct 2026): they scan your documents, and they take payments. Capfin lists “In-store payment at Pep, Ackermans, or any other Pay@ outlets” using the unique Pay@ reference number it gives you. Its website carries a PEP store locator and an Ackermans store locator.
How much you get depends on Capfin’s affordability assessment, which looks at “your income and expenses, your credit profile, and payment behavior”. Capfin also says credit life is mandatory when you apply; you may replace Capfin Credit Life with your own credit life policy.

Capfin loan application: online, by SMS or in store
Capfin takes applications three ways: online at capfin.co.za (“Apply Now”), by SMS to 33005, or in any PEP or Ackermans store. It says the loan is paid out “within 48 business hours after approval”. The steps, from its FAQ:
- Check you fit. Capfin’s FAQ asks for permanent employment with a monthly salary and an SA bank account at one of seven supported banks: Standard Bank, ABSA, FNB, Nedbank, Capitec, African Bank or TymeBank. The documents and the age limit are in the requirements above.
- Create a profile. Online, the profile opens only with your SA ID number and a one-time PIN (OTP) sent to the cellphone number you registered. If no OTP arrives, use “Resend OTP”; Capfin says it comes within 15 minutes. To change the number, call 087 354 0000.
- Get your offer. You must apply to see what you qualify for. Capfin then prepares an offer, subject to its affordability assessment, and says the amount “may change” after further credit checks.
- Send your documents. Upload them in your profile, scan them at a PEP or Ackermans store, email docs@capfinmail.co.za with your SA ID number in the subject line, or fax 086 688 0000. If you bank with ABSA, African Bank, Standard Bank or Nedbank, Capfin can obtain them for you, with your permission, at no extra cost.
- Approve DebiCheck. Your bank sends a request to confirm Capfin’s debit order. Capfin says the loan is not paid if you do not confirm within 48 hours, and a delay in approving it delays the transfer.
If Capfin declines you, its FAQ says you may reapply after 30 calendar days. Meanwhile you can compare other lenders and apply to one that suits your income and documents.
Capfin login, application status and statement
Capfin’s login uses your SA ID number and a one-time PIN (OTP) sent to your registered cellphone, the same two things you used to create the profile. The menu on capfin.co.za shows “My loan offers”, “My Details”, “Upload docs” and “My loan account”.
In the profile you can change your debit order date or bank account (“Your Active Loans”, then “Change My Payment Details”, or “My Details”, then “Change Payment Details”), get a settlement quote and open your Capfin Credit Life documents and policy terms. Your bank may ask you to approve a DebiCheck message after a change.
Application status and statement. Capfin’s FAQ does not describe a status page or a statement download (checked 28 Oct 2026). Ask the contact centre on 087 354 0000 (weekdays 08:00 to 18:00). Capfin also lists WhatsApp 066 000 0683.
Settle, pay or rearrange a Capfin loan
Capfin collects your instalment by debit order from the bank account you gave when the loan was approved. Other ways to pay, per its FAQ:
- a bank deposit, with your Capfin Personal Loan account number or ID number as the reference;
- in store at PEP, Ackermans or another Pay@ outlet, with your Pay@ reference number;
- the Capfin Pay@ Payment Portal, through a link sent by SMS when you set up a payment arrangement.
Settlement. Ask for a settlement quote by phone (087 354 0000), in your profile or by USSD *134*6454#, then pay by direct deposit, EFT or Pay@. The quote is valid until the date you choose and “can never be valid for more than 21 days”. It differs from your balance because it adds unpaid interest, fees and credit life up to the settlement date. Extra payments do not lower the instalment, but they may shorten the term.
Missed payment. Contact Collections on 087 285 1234, in your profile or by the same USSD, and agree an arrangement. Capfin warns that non-payment “will negatively impact your credit record”.
Capfin loans: unemployed, blacklisted, WhatsApp and SMS
Can I get a PEP loan if I am unemployed or get a SASSA grant?
Not on Capfin’s published rules: its FAQ says you must be “permanently employed and earning a monthly salary” and send three payslips or three bank statements. If a grant or irregular work is your income, read loans if you are unemployed before you apply anywhere.
Does Capfin lend to blacklisted people?
Capfin does not use the word “blacklisted” on the pages we read (28 Oct 2026). It says the amount depends on an affordability assessment that includes “your credit profile and payment behavior”. That is not a yes or a no. See loans with a bad record for what lenders look at.
What is the Capfin WhatsApp number?
066 000 0683, listed on Capfin’s contact page on 28 Oct 2026 next to phone 087 354 0000 (weekdays 08:00 to 18:00), email info@capfin.co.za, USSD *134*6454# and fax 086 688 0000.
What is the Capfin SMS number?
33005. Capfin’s FAQ gives it as the number to apply by SMS.
Is there a Capfin loan calculator?
Yes. Capfin’s home page has a calculator where you pick an amount and a term of 6, 12 or 24 months and see a monthly instalment including VAT. Capfin calls it an estimate: your amount depends on its affordability assessment. To test your own numbers with the rate in your quotation, use our loan calculator.

Important information
Steps, numbers and eligibility come from Capfin’s FAQ, contact page and home page (capfin.co.za), read on 28 Oct 2026. Capfin can change them; use the numbers on your loan agreement if they differ. The rate, fees, example loan and registration number are in the blocks above, each with its source and date. A registered credit provider must assess whether you can afford a loan before it lends. Being listed in the NCR register is not an endorsement by the regulator or by Tasamira. Tasamira is a comparison site: it is not Capfin and does not decide loans.

- A loan has to be repaid on time. Before you sign, check the interest rate, the initiation and monthly service fees, any credit life insurance and the total amount you will repay, and make sure the repayments fit your budget. If you pay late, the lender can add default interest and collection costs, and missed payments can be reported to credit bureaus. Under the National Credit Act, a lender must check that you can afford the loan. Check the lender in the NCR register before you apply.
