SSS salary loan in two minutes: amount, interest, term
An SSS salary loan costs 8% interest a year on the diminishing balance, plus a 1% service fee deducted from the proceeds, and you repay it in 24 equal monthly payments (SSS, Circular 2025-004, checked Oct 23, 2026). The rate is 10% if you used a penalty condonation in the last five years. The apps on our list publish far higher rates: from 0.2% a day at Cashalo and 0.4% a day at Honey Loan, and up to 11.9% a month at MoneyCat.
The rest of the SSS terms, as the SSS page states them:
- Amount. A one-month loan equals the average of your 12 latest posted Monthly Salary Credits (MSC), rounded to the next higher MSC, or the amount you apply for if that is lower. A two-month loan is twice that average.
- Repayment. 24 equal monthly payments, starting in the second month after approval, due by the last day of the following month.
- What you actually receive. The approved amount minus the 1% service fee, the pro-rated interest charged in advance and the balance of any earlier short-term SSS loan.
- Late payments. A penalty of 1% a month, charged for each day of delay.
- Renewal. Allowed after 6 months if the loan is not past due and your last three payments were on time; a fully paid loan can be renewed right away on the same condition.
- Where the money goes. To your MySSS Card or UMID ATM Pay Card, or to a single bank account in your name that takes PESONet and is enrolled in My.SSS.
The SSS rate can change: the page says adjustments are announced through official SSS channels and apply to new or renewed loans from the announcement date.

Who qualifies: contributions and status
The SSS page sets these conditions for the salary loan:
- Contributions. 36 posted monthly contributions for a one-month loan, or 72 for a two-month loan; in both cases 6 of them within the 12 months before you file. Self-employed, voluntary (including non-working spouse) and land-based OFW members also need at least 6 posted contributions under their current membership type.
- Who can apply. Employed members (including kasambahay), self-employed members, voluntary members and land-based OFW members. For employed members, the employer must be up to date on contributions and loan remittances.
- Age. Of legal age and under 65 when you apply.
- Clean record. No past-due SSS loans, no fraud against SSS, no final benefit already granted (unless it was cancelled), and updated contact details.
- Disbursement account. An active account or card enrolled in the My.SSS disbursement enrollment module.
If you have fewer than 36 contributions, SSS has another option: SSS LoanLite, a micro loan of ₱1,000 to ₱20,000 for 15, 30, 60 or 90 days that needs at least 12 posted contributions and no employer certification. It runs through partner banks (UnionDigital Bank from August 2026, RCBC and Land Bank of the Philippines from the third quarter of 2026, UnionBank in the fourth quarter), and its interest follows the rate of an initial salary loan. Early repayment is allowed, without a rebate of interest (SSS, Circular 2026-005, Oct 23, 2026). The Emergency Loan Program only opens when a national calamity or emergency is declared.

Applying through My.SSS: steps and release time
You file the salary loan online, in your My.SSS account on the SSS website or in the MySSS mobile app. The steps from the SSS page:
- Check in My.SSS that you meet the contribution count and that your contact information is up to date.
- Enroll your disbursement account (MySSS Card, UMID ATM Pay Card or a PESONet bank account in your name) in the My.SSS disbursement module.
- File the application. If you are employed, your employer certifies it electronically, confirming that you work there and that your net take-home pay can cover the monthly payment.
- Review the Disclosure Statement shown during the application: it has your exact effective rate, which can vary slightly from borrower to borrower.
- Repay on schedule. If you are employed, your employer deducts the monthly payment from your payroll and remits it to SSS; self-employed, voluntary and land-based OFW members pay each month with a Payment Reference Number at an SSS branch with a tellering facility or through an SSS-accredited collecting agent.
How long the money takes to arrive is not on the SSS page, so we cannot give you a number. The SSS hotline is 1455. Payments start in the second month after approval, which is why a salary loan does not suit a need for cash today.

Cost on ₱10,000: SSS against 4 loan apps, table
Same ₱10,000, each lender's own published terms, longest term first. This is not a ranking: the terms are very different, so compare the total cost, not the rate.
| Lender | Amount | Term | Published rate | Cost of ₱10,000 (Tasamira arithmetic) | Data from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SSS salary loan | Average of your 12 latest MSCs, or twice that | 24 monthly payments | 8% a year on the diminishing balance, 1% service fee | ₱452.27 a month; about ₱954.55 in interest and fee, before the pro-rated interest | sss.gov.ph, Oct 23, 2026 |
| Honey Loan Get money | ₱1,000-₱30,000 | 61-364 days | From 0.4% per day | Not calculated here; ₱5,000 for 65 days is in our low-interest guide | Oct 18, 2026 |
| Finbro Get money | ₱1,000-₱50,000 | Up to 360 days | Shown in the application, before signing | Not published | Oct 18, 2026 |
| Cashalo Apply at MoneyCat | ₱1,000-₱13,000 | 61-180 days | 0.2% daily interest plus 0.2% daily service fee | Up to about ₱4,800 over 120 days | Oct 18, 2026 |
| MoneyCat Get money | ₱500-₱20,000 | 65-180 days | Up to 11.9% per month | Not calculated here; see our low-interest guide | Oct 18, 2026 |
How we calculated: for SSS, equal monthly payments over 24 months at 8% a year on the balance; the 1% fee (₱100) is added to the interest, and the pro-rated interest SSS deducts in advance is not included because SSS does not publish it. For Cashalo, 0.2% daily interest plus 0.2% daily service fee, which its card puts at 12% a month for loans up to ₱10,000 and four months, comes to 0.4% × 120 days × ₱10,000 = ₱4,800 if it is charged on the original amount for all 120 days, as Honey Loan's own example does. Cashalo does not say how it charges, so the real figure may be lower.
On ₱10,000, the SSS salary loan costs about 9.5% of the amount spread over two years. The Cashalo rate adds up to about 48% over four months. That is what you pay for borrowing without 36 contributions.

Salary loan app or SSS salary loan: when an app makes sense
If you qualify, the SSS salary loan is cheaper. An app makes sense when you do not: you are not an SSS member or have fewer than 36 contributions, you are 65 or older (SSS requires under 65, while Finbro and Honey Loan accept up to 70), or you cannot wait for the SSS process and its payments that start in the second month.
What the apps ask for, from their sites (Oct 11 to 18, 2026):
- Finbro: Filipino citizen, age 20 to 70, one valid ID, a selfie, an active mobile number, employed or with regular income.
- Honey Loan: Filipino citizen, age 21 to 70, a government ID and mobile number, with a credit check on every application.
- MoneyCat: Filipino living in the Philippines, age 22 to 60, ID, proof of income, proof of address and recent bank statements.
- Cashalo: one valid government ID; no collateral or references, according to its site.
Borrow only what you can repay on the due dates: a late payment adds charges and can reach your credit record.
Compare amount, term and rate in the loan apps list; lenders that do not cover your amount drop off.
Scams that use the SSS name
SSS describes its own process: you file the salary loan only in My.SSS or the MySSS app, the money goes to your enrolled MySSS Card, UMID ATM Pay Card or bank account, and you repay through payroll deduction (employed members) or with a Payment Reference Number at an SSS branch or an accredited agent (other members). Anything else is not that process. Be wary when:
- someone offers an «SSS loan» by text, Facebook or chat and asks you to send a fee first to «release» it;
- the link does not lead to the sss.gov.ph site or the MySSS app, or you are asked for your My.SSS password or an OTP;
- you are told the money will go to a person's e-wallet or an account that is not yours.
If you are unsure, call the SSS hotline (1455) or open My.SSS yourself instead of following a message. For loan apps, a company should show its registered name and SEC registration number; the steps are in our guide to legit loan apps.
Check an app before you give it your ID. Read our guide to legit loan apps in the Philippines.
Compare loan apps if the SSS loan is not an option
Put the amount you need and the number of days you can pay into the list, then compare the total to repay, not only the daily rate. The app decides whether to approve you, and applying does not guarantee a loan.
FAQ
How much can I borrow from SSS?
A one-month salary loan equals the average of your 12 latest posted Monthly Salary Credits, rounded to the next higher MSC, or the amount you apply for if that is lower. A two-month loan is twice that average and needs 72 posted contributions (SSS page, Oct 23, 2026). The 1% service fee and the pro-rated interest come out of what you receive.
How long does the SSS salary loan take?
The SSS page does not state a release time, so we do not give one. It does say you file online through My.SSS or the MySSS app, that an employer certifies the application for employed members, and that payments start in the second month after approval. For the status of an application, SSS lists the hotline 1455.
Can I get an SSS loan if I am unemployed?
It depends on your membership, not on having a job today. The salary loan is open to employed, self-employed, voluntary (including non-working spouse) and land-based OFW members who have 36 posted contributions, 6 of them in the last 12 months, and are under 65. The page does not set an employment condition for voluntary members.
Is a loan app cheaper than SSS?
On published rates, no. On ₱10,000 the SSS salary loan costs about ₱955 in interest and fee over 24 months (8% a year on the balance, 1% fee), while Cashalo's published rate adds up to about ₱4,800 over 120 days. Apps are for people who do not qualify for SSS or cannot wait for it.
Which loan apps are SEC-registered?
Finbro, Honey Loan, MoneyCat and Cashalo each say on their own sites that they hold an SEC Certificate of Authority, and our cards show the company name and registration number. We have not checked those claims against the SEC lists yet, so confirm them using the steps in our guide to legit loan apps.
Important information
SSS salary loan terms come from the SSS page «Salary loan» and Circular 2025-004; SSS LoanLite terms from the SSS page and Circular 2026-005; both read on Oct 23, 2026. SSS can adjust the interest rate and announces changes through official channels. The SSS example assumes equal monthly payments at 8% a year on the diminishing balance for 24 months, which is our simplification: the Disclosure Statement in My.SSS shows your actual effective rate and payments, and the pro-rated interest deducted in advance is not included.
App terms are from each lender's site and our cards (Oct 11 to 18, 2026). Tasamira is a comparison site, not a lender, and is not affiliated with SSS.
- MoneyCat: terms from the lender’s website, as of Oct 11, 2026
